Sir Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz have signed the first UK-Germany treaty since the Second World War.
The German chancellor said today’s treaty comes under the "major challenges of our time".
These, Merz explained, include Britain’s exit from Europe—which he described as "deplorable"—as well as Russia "shaking the European security architecture."
