The head of MI5 has laid out the top threats facing the UK, ranging from Iran to right-wing extremism, but Russia remains “aggressor number one”. And it could all be supercharged by AI.

The counter-intelligence security agency is focusing more resources on threats from hostile states on British soil than it did during the Cold War, according to Director General Sir Ken McCallum.
He had alarming words about technology, from the algorithms that divide us to AI that could be used for terrorism, potentially giving access to biological weapons.
And he said the most marked trend was young, extreme anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim grievance tipping into terrorist intent.
