Minister apologises to victims over grooming gangs inquiry

A Cabinet minister has tried to reassure abuse victims that they will remain at the centre of the grooming gangs inquiry, after four abuse survivors quit their roles.

Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds’ comments follow the resignation of four women, including Ellie Reynolds, from the inquiry’s victims liaison panel, citing concerns about a “toxic environment”.

The women also expressed concerns over attempts to widen the scope of the inquiry beyond grooming gangs, and the candidates being considered to chair it, one of whom was reportedly a former police chief and the other a social worker.
