Minister responds to criticism that crackdown on 'cosmetic cowboys' is taking too long

The UK Government is cracking down on “cosmetic cowboys”.

New proposed rules would mean Liquid BBLs can only be performed by doctors, while other high-risk treatments, including vampire facials and deep chemical peels, would be restricted to qualified healthcare professionals.

Those breaking the rules could face criminal prosecution and fines of up to £4,000, or unlimited fines. Cosmetic surgery and other high-risk procedures would also be banned for under-18s.

The Minister of Health Karin Smyth said ‘there are some horrific examples’ from ITV News’ investigations in the past, and stressed that it is important to get the new regulations right.
