At least 30 bodies were recovered from the Potomac River, local media reported, after a passenger jet collided with a military helicopter on Thursday.

The American Airlines plane was carrying 64 people – 60 passengers and four crew members – and three service personnel were onboard the US army Black Hawk helicopter. All takeoffs and landings from Reagan national airport in Washington were halted as emergency services searched the river for survivors. The world champion Russian figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were confirmed to be on the passenger flight
