In a shock result, the former foreign and home secretary has not made it through to the final round of a contest that could shape the future of a once-dominant Conservative party. Instead two rightwingers, the former business secretary Kemi Badenoch and the former immigration minister Robert Jenrick, will go head to head in a vote by party members, with the victor being announced on 2 November.
In final round of voting by Tory MPs, Badenoch came first with 42 out of 120 votes, with Jenrick a close second on 41 votes, while Cleverly, who won the third round of voting, received 37
