As Reporter Lewis Denison explains, a group of MPs are hopeful there will be exemptions for educational content when under-16s are banned from using social media early next year.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Digital Creators is warning Andy Burnham that a blanket ban could cut off access to revision resources many pupils rely on and widen the attainment gap, because it would disproportionally impact children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Labour MP Feryal Clark, former digital minister and chairwoman of the APPG, told ITV News educational content on websites like YouTube allow young people to learn in their own way and at their own pace.
She said online educational content "levels the playing field" for children across class, location or educational need, as it allows everyone to access material tailored to their way of learning, rather than just those who can afford tutoring.
