David Challen successfully campaigned to free his mother, Sally Challen, from prison in 2019, almost nine years after she killed his father, Richard, with a hammer.
His book ‘The Unthinkable’ describes how he pieced together the truth of his mother’s life to free her from jail.
The now domestic abuse campaigner spoke to Jackie Long about the decades of coercive control his mum suffered, how he had normalised his father’s behaviour, what needs to be done to protect victims, and the feelings he has toward his dad now.
