When Liz Curtis lost her third child, a daughter Lily, to mitochondrial disease, there was a lack of support for those impacted by the inherited condition that affects 1 in 5,000 births in the UK.
She set up the Lily Foundation, which has raised more than £11m to support families and fund research into the "devastating, progressive, degenerative disease" for which there is no cure.
Ms Curtis told Sky News she was "overjoyed" at news that eight healthy babies have been born following a pioneering IVF technique using the DNA from three people.
