Myanmar earthquake: Thousands feared dead after 7.7 magnitude quake

The death toll in Myanmar is expected to rise, possibly into the thousands. But the country’s ability to mount rescue efforts and care for the injured is severely hampered by the on-going civil war.

The tremors were so powerful that buildings collapsed in neighbouring countries – 81 construction workers are missing after a tower block collapsed in the Thai capital. Bangkok has been declared a disaster area.
