Nationwide internet blackout continues in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is facing its third day without internet and mobile phone connectivity.

The blackout has disrupted banking, shops and airports.

The Taliban says the replacement of old internet cables is behind the nationwide shutdown.

Several provinces said this week said the shutdown was because of a decree from the Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, aimed at tackling immorality.

Critics fear the blackout is part of a Taliban strategy to exert more control over the population.

Sky’s Asia correspondent Cordelia Lynch has more from the Afghan capital Kabul.
