Nato will extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the military alliance when ‘members agree and conditions are met’, Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday. The secretary general’s comments reflected a communique issued by Nato members at the end of a two-day summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, during which Ukraine’s possible membership was discussed. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy said earlier in the day it would be ‘absurd’ if Nato leaders did not offer his country a timeframe for membership
