More than 1,400 people were killed and thousands remain missing after catastrophic floods devastated parts of Nepal. A month later, survivors are confronting another enormous challenge: rebuilding their lives.
DW travelled to some of the worst-hit communities in Nuwakot district, where entire neighborhoods were swept away. Mohammad Aslam spent 22 years working abroad to build a home for his family. It took less than a minute for the floods to destroy it.
Other survivors are still searching through the mud for belongings, documents and reminders of the lives they had before the disaster. Some have lost not only their homes, but members of their families.
We speak to journalist Shankar Dahal about the search for thousands of missing people, the challenges facing isolated communities and whether Nepal is prepared for future climate-related disasters.
