His party won the general election in October but it’s taken almost four months to form a coalition.

The Dutch coalition consists of Jetten’s Democrats 66 party, the conservative Christian Democrats and the right-wing VVD party.

Jetten has a minority government which means his proposals will need support from opposition parties.

His D66 party narrowly beat the right wing, anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders, who dominated the previous government.

Migration has been a divisive issue in Dutch politics. Jetten has proposed allowing asylum claims to be made outside of Europe instead of when people arrive, to help tackle illegal immigration.
