A system known as Martha’s rule is being rolled out across every A&E department in England – allowing patients, their relatives and NHS staff to ask for a review of their care.

The system is named after 13 year old Martha Mills, who died from sepsis in 2021.
Her family’s concerns about her treatment had been ignored – and the coroner ruled that she would probably have survived if she had been moved to intensive care earlier.
