Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has accused Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar of a "sectarian" speech, suggesting he wanted the South Asian community to "take over" Scotland.
Farage made the remaks in Aberdeen, ahead of the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election on Thursday. Reform’s campaigns for the seat have come under criticism, with adverts attacking Sarwar being branded racist by opponents.
He referenced a speech Sarwar gave in 2020 where he noted that key figures across Scotland, from the judiciary, to council chief executives to head teachers, were all white.
The candidates for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse’s by-election on Thursday, May 5 are:
Collette Bradley, Scottish Socialist Party
Andy Brady, Scottish Scottish Family Party
Ross Lambie, Reform UK
Katy Loudon, SNP
Janice Mackay, UKIP
Ann McGuinness, Scottish Green Party
Aisha Mir, Scottish Liberal Democrats
Richard Nelson, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
Davy Russell, Scottish Labour Party
Marc Wilkinson, Independent
