The number of people arriving in the UK on small boats rose by 13% to more than 45,000 last year and they accounted for 41% of people claiming asylum.
Home Office figures also show that the number of asylum seekers being housed temporarily in UK hotels has fallen to the lowest level for 18 months, standing at 30,657 at the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, the backlog of people waiting for an initial decision on an asylum application in the UK has dropped sharply to its lowest level in more than five years.
