The decision drove oil prices rising above $100 a barrel again, while all shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is said to have stopped after Trump’s announcement.
Sir Keir Starmer said the UK would not support the blockade, declaring that it was vital to get the Strait "fully open".
