Oscar-winning Palestinian director freed after being attacked by Israeli settlers | ITV News

An Oscar-winning Palestinian who was attacked by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank has told ITV News of his ordeal shortly after he was released.

Hamdan Ballal, who won an Academy Award three weeks ago, said Israeli police beat him outside his home in the village of Susiya on Monday, while officers filmed the assault.

He and two other Palestinians, who were also attacked, were then arrested by Israeli troops who said they had been throwing stones.

ITV News Senior International Correspondent John Irvine spoke with Mr Ballal on Tuesday after he left the police station in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba where he was being held.
