Donald Trump has confirmed there were no survivors in Wednesday night’s crash between a passenger plane and an army helicopter near Washington DC, describing it as a "dark and excruciating night in our nation’s capital".
In a press briefing on Thursday, the US president said "our hearts are shattered", following what is likely to be the worst US aviation disaster in almost 24 years.
