Our national security is under threat, according to this secret government report

ITV News has seen a classified government intelligence report which appears to show some of the most worrying potential impacts of our loss of nature weren’t disclosed to the public.

Twenty five nature organisations have written a letter to the government responding to the original short report demanding the government take the issue more seriously.

ITV News put all these claims to DEFRA, the government department who published the report. They declined an interview but said: “Understanding the security risks arising from biodiversity loss is critical to strengthening the UK’s long-term resilience and this Assessment will inform our actions to prepare the UK for the future.

"We are already investing a record £11.8 billion in sustainable farming and £10.5 billion in flood defences at home, as well as £3 billion to protect vital habitats around the world: all part of our commitment to understand and prevent nature loss.”
