
More than 100 people have died in a mine collapse in the western part of the Central African Republic. The low-tech, artisanal gold mine collapsed Tuesday morning in the village of Zamboye, in the Nana-Mambere prefecture, near the border with Cameroon.

An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the collapse. Artisanal mine collapses are common in the Central African Republic, where thousands work in small-scale extraction mining, often without enough protective gear.
