Owner of killer XL bully jailed for 10 years

An aspiring rapper who owned an XL bully that killed a grandmother has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Ashley Warren, 41, was found guilty of owning one of two XL bully dogs that killed Esther Martin, 68, in Jaywick, Essex, on 3 February 2024.

He was acquitted at at a previous trial of being a person in charge of another dog named Beauty – an animal that belonged to his girlfriend – which did the same.

At his sentencing on Tuesday Warren also pleaded guilty to two additional charges of owning a dangerous dog at Chelmsford Crown Court.

There were cries of relief from Ms Martin’s family as he was led away after being jailed for 10 years and three months.
