Patel accuses ministers of 'political interference' in China spying case

Shadow foreign secretary Priti Patel has accused the government of "political interference" after the collapse of the legal case against two British men accused of spying for China.

The government said the CPS had dropped the case against Christopher Cash, 30, a former parliamentary researcher, and teacher Christopher Berry, 33, because the previous government had not designated China a threat to national security.

Ms Patel said: "That case collapsed effectively because the government did not give the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) the evidence about China being a threat to our national security.

"And that is fundamentally politically, it’s a political interference in the judicial process."
