Patrick Christys lambasts Sir Lindsay Hoyle after it emerged the Speaker of the House of Commons had spent £320k of taxpayer cash on foreign jaunts.
A spokesperson for Sir Lindsay Hoyle said: "Like many Speakers over the years and like his counterparts across the world, Mr Speaker is often invited to visit other parliaments for bilateral meetings, conferences and other significant events.
"He has himself hosted 78 visiting Speakers to London since he came into office. Inter-parliamentary engagement is an important part of his role and a key element in ensuring knowledge and best practice is shared by legislatures. Value for money is sought at all times, and costs and staffing are proactively published."
