Paymaster General defends Labour government's position on defence spending

"Defence in fundamental to the government," Paymaster General Nick Thomas-Symonds told Sky News’ Sophy Ridge on Politics Hub.

His comments come on the same day as veterans minister Al Carns said the country needs to rebuild the army’s depth.

He insisted that there "certainly isn’t a hole in defence", adding: "The first duty of any government is to keep the people safe."
