Former House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has launched the first salvo in what could be a bitter blame game into why the Democrats lost the US election so badly.
Ms Pelosi said Joe Biden’s decision to fight a second term rather than stepping down earlier – and then backing Kamala Harris as a candidate – meant the party did not have time to explore who was the best person to stand against Trump.
The politician was widely believed to be the driving force in getting Mr Biden to stand down in July.
