Those responsible for the disorder in Sunderland last night were "intent on sowing hate", Labour MP for Sunderland Central, Lewis Atkins has said.
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Atkins said the violence was "appalling thuggery" from a "mindless small minority of people" that do not represent the people of Sunderland".
