Person dies trying to cross English Channel in small boat

A person has died trying to cross the English Channel after a medical emergency on a small boat.

The RNLI said it had launched an all-weather lifeboat to the incident – while a Border Force vessel brought a group of migrants to shore in Dover.

More than 700 migrants made the crossing on Tuesday – the highest number of people arriving in the UK on a single day this year.
