After eight years and two consecutive terms in power, Poland’s nationalist Law and Justice party may be on their way out. Exit polls suggest they secured around 36% of the votes – more than any other party, but not the majority they would need to govern again. The opposing Civic Coalition party – headed by former European Council President Donald Tusk – came in second place but may be able team up with two smaller parties to form a government and secure a majority of seats in Parliament.
