Maricarmen Abascal was given just 30 minutes to leave with her essential belongings. Her apartment in the affluent Retiro district had been bought by an investment fund, which sought a steep increase in her rent.
Her eviction comes as Spain faces a worsening housing crisis, with soaring rents and a shortage of affordable homes putting growing pressure on tenants.
