Police chiefs given powers to sack rogue officers

Police officers in England and Wales will face automatic dismissal if found guilty of gross misconduct as part of a government plan to overhaul the disciplinary process.

Chief Constables will now also chair those misconduct hearings – a move described to this programme as ‘regressive’ by one independent lawyer who currently sits on the panels.
