A bomb discovered after a car was intercepted near the Northern Ireland border was likely "ready to be used in the coming hours," a former Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Detective Chief Superintendent has told UTV.
The “extremely significant” device was discovered in an operation targeting dissident republicans, the Republic of Ireland’s police force An Garda Síochána said.
Politicians claimed the discovery on Wednesday afternoon prevented "innocent families from suffering unimaginable tragedy".
Since this report, a 25-year-old woman has been granted bail after appearing before a special sitting of Trim District Court in Co Meath charged with possession of explosives.
