Patrick Christys blasts new police guidance on releasing the ethnicity and nationality of criminal suspects, calling it a “cop-out” that risks fuelling cover-up accusations.
Under the National Police Chiefs’ Council and College of Policing rules, forces will “consider” releasing suspect details – but only in so-called “high-profile” cases. Patrick warns this could mean crimes committed by foreign nationals are hidden from the public if they’re not deemed newsworthy enough.
