Pope Francis’ funeral: world leaders join 400,000 mourners

Over 400,000 people turned out in St Peter’s Square for the Pope’s funeral – lining the streets as his coffin was carried through Rome for a private burial at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, to pay their final respects.

It was also a moment of high drama for international diplomacy: the meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy – the address by Cardinal Battista who said the Pope wanted ‘honest negotiation’ and believed war always leaves the world worse than it was before.
