In his Urbi et Orbi address before large crowds gathered in St Peter’s Square the Pope said people in Ukraine had been "tormented" by violence and called for the "clamour of weapons" to cease.
He also condemned the conditions in Gaza where thousands of people are living in tents during weeks of rain, wind and cold.
