It should be a straightforward arrangement to make – a meeting which could eventually bring a halt to the bloodshed of the war in Europe. But with Ukraine and the characters involved, Presidents Trump and Putin, things are never simple.
President Putin said today he hopes they will meet next week – possibly in the United Arab Emirates – after President Trump said, this time last night, he was up for it. As ever however, there are strings attached.
