Sir Keir Starmer has said the UK risks becoming an "island of strangers" without tougher immigration rules, as he vowed to "tighten up" all elements of the system.
Unveiling a series of stricter visa requirements, the prime ministers announced plans to extend the pathway to citizenship to a decade, cut overseas care workers and increase English language requirements.
He has been accused of being "cruel", imitating Nigel Farage, and producing a plan that wont work.
