Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips resigned from Cabinet on Tuesday, becoming the most senior minister to step away from the prime minister, who has so far vowed to stay in post.
Phillips’ departure was shortly followed by the minister for victims and violence against women and girls, Alex Davies-Jones and later by health minister Zubir Ahmed.
Junior devolution minister Miatta Fahnbulleh became the first government minister to resign on Tuesday and ask the PM to set out a departure timetable.
But the Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy, has warned that "navel-gazing" within the Labour Party will benefit Nigel Farage’s Reform UK as the Labour party grows more divided.
