Prime Minister Starmer defiant in faces of calls to resign

Following the Mandelson scandal, Sir Keir Starmer has survived a feverish day in which his leader in Scotland, Anas Sarwar, became the first major figure to say he should quit.

And he lost another ally in Downing Street as his Director of Communications Tim Allan resigned. But this evening the PM has been addressing the Parliamentary Labour Party saying he will not go and the whole cabinet has expressed their support, to varying degrees.

Angela Rayner, one of the likely candidates if he does quit, also tweeted her support. And the other leading candidate Wes Streeting also said "no" the PM does not have to go. So do they all mean it, or have they just delayed the overthrow until imminent election losses and in hope the Mandelson scandal will die down and the tax affairs that forced Rayner’s resignation are settled?

Can Starmer reassert control, or is he now a zombie Prime Minister just waiting for the inevitable?
