Dozens of mostly young people threw rocks and firecrackers at officers near the capital’s central railway station. Police responded with water cannon and tear gas.
Separately, Belgium’s two biggest trade unions organised a nationwide strike, with around 30,000 people joining a largely peaceful demonstration in Brussels.
Police and union leaders said those involved in the clashes were not linked to the main march.
