Protests across Serbia lead to prime minister's resignation

Miloš Vučević has resigned after mounting pressure and months of ongoing protests. What began as student-led protests have ballooned to include thousands of teachers, farmers and other workers blaming the disaster on corruption within the government, which it denies. The protests, which included blockading a main junction in Belgrade, have been largely peaceful. Three protesters in Novi Sad, however, were attacked on Monday and blamed members of Vučević’s Serbian Progressive party. A woman sustained head injuries and was treated in hospital. Vučević claims the attack was the catalyst for his resignation and pressure is now mounting even further on Serbia’s president, Aleksandar Vučić.
