Protests continue in Iran despite regime crackdown

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first speech since the demonstrations began last month, calling protesters vandals and saying authorities would not back down in the face of opposition. Thousands of people were heard chanting anti-regime slogans across the country in what are the biggest protests in more than three years. The US-based Human Rights Activists news agency said that at least 50 people had been killed in the violence surrounding protests and more than 2,270 others had been detained
