Donald Trump is set to meet Vladimir Putin in the US state of Alaska, on Friday.
Sky’s security and defence analyst, Michael Clarke, analyses President Vladimir Putin’s strategy and whether ‘talks will just continue without any real progress.’
Clarke said, ‘Putin has given up nothing, absolutely nothing, and Trump is offering him a diplomatic triumph.’
He adds, a ‘direct summit with the U.S. president’ is normally a ‘reward for doing something’ but Putin is ‘getting rewarded for doing nothing so far.’
