Putin wants ‘direct talks’ with Ukraine to end war

Hours after European leaders laid down an ultimatum to President Putin, the Russian leader summoned journalists to the Kremlin for a 1:30am press conference.

His offer of direct peace talks in Istanbul on Thursday has been accepted by Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy. But he and the Europeans continue to call for a ceasefire.
