Queen hands out Maundy money to pensioners on behalf of King Charles

The King has stressed the importance of "friendship in times of need" in his Maundy Thursday Easter message.

The pre-recorded audio was broadcast in his absence at a service in Worcester Cathedral.

The major event in the royal calendar sees Maundy money – newly minted coins – distributed to the community by the head of state in recognition of their service, with the Queen deputising for the King in the ceremony, a first for a Queen Consort.
