The Chancellor Rachel Reeves has defended her Budget decisions and denied claims that she misled the public – and the markets – over the size of the Government’s fiscal challenge. Ms Reeves said she had been aiming to build "more headroom" into the economy due to reduced productivity, and that’s one reason why tax rises were needed.
