Report says court backlog is unmanageable and 'harming victims'

There’s a warning today the backlog in the courtrooms of England and Wales is "actively harming victims", with 73,105 outstanding criminal cases waiting to be dealt.

Research by the Victims’ Commissioner found almost half of victims of alleged crimes have had their crown court trial dates rescheduled at least once.

In response to the findings, the Ministry of Justice said it’s increased the number of court sittings to their highest in a decade, and will continue to do so until the justice system "fully protects victims".
