
Resident doctors are on strike for five days after British Medical Association (BMA) members rejected a new offer from the government – raising fears for patient safety as a "super flu" sweeps the country.
The government’s offer did not include extra pay, but proposed a fast expansion of specialist training posts and covering out-of-pocket expenses such as exam fees. This was rejected in a BMA vote by 83% to 17%.
