Resident doctors to strike before Christmas after pay offer rejected, despite surge in flu cases

A Christmas strike by resident doctors will go ahead, despite high levels of flu cases, after union members rejected the government’s offer.

The British Medical Association says its members have rejected the government’s offer to call off the strikes, which are due to take place between 17 December and 22 December.

It comes after NHS England said it was facing the "worst case scenario" after flu cases rose by more than 55% in a week.
